For example, if we have more specific information about our health, we’ll be able to understand it better. We’ll have a better chance at finding effective ways to treat it.

Additional health resources

To find additional mental health assistance, consider visiting the websites of the Anxiety and Depression Association of America (ADAA), African American Mental Health Providers (AAMHP), and Psychology Today. The sites have areas where you can search for providers. They provide information about mental health and the African American community.

Also, if you have family members and friends who have sought mental health help, consider asking them for recommendations to find assistance. Such talks can spark conversations about mental health, remind people that they’re not alone in their struggles, and congratulate them on their achievements.

Life can be difficult enough. Fighting racism and the health consequences it produces can make life even more difficult. By acknowledging our struggles and seeking help, we can continue this fight and promote good health. Black mental health matters.
