Minority Mental Health Awareness Month: Finding Health Resources

Knowledge can mean the difference between controlling our lives and being controlled by outside forces.

For example, if we have more specific information about our health, we’ll be able to understand it better. We’ll have a better chance at finding effective ways to treat it.

Health resources

Do you want information about how specific health conditions relate to African Americans as well as resources about African American health organizations?

Consider going online and visiting the site BlackNews.com. Its website includes a comprehensive page called Top Black Health Resources that includes all of this information and more.

The page has links to sites that discuss health conditions. It also includes links for organizations that assist people in specific geographical communities.

Additional health resources

To find additional mental health assistance, consider visiting the websites of the Anxiety and Depression Association of America (ADAA), African American Mental Health Providers (AAMHP), and Psychology Today. The sites have areas where you can search for providers. They provide information about mental health and the African American community.

Also, if you have family members and friends who have sought mental health help, consider asking them for recommendations to find assistance. Such talks can spark conversations about mental health, remind people that they’re not alone in their struggles, and congratulate them on their achievements.

Life can be difficult enough. Fighting racism and the health consequences it produces can make life even more difficult. By acknowledging our struggles and seeking help, we can continue this fight and promote good health. Black mental health matters.
