World Listening Day: July 18th

Every July 18th is World Listening Day, but if you’re not familiar with this particular date, you’re not alone. Many people don’t understand the importance of this day, or how celebrating it can benefit them.

The concept behind this day is acoustic ecology. The World Listening Project, a nonprofit organization, practices field recording and listening to understand the natural environment, societies, and cultures of the world. Acoustic ecology studies the relationship between the natural world and humans as expressed through sound.

This year’s theme is called The Collective Field, and the focus is the sound of the ground.

You might be wondering the benefit of taking some time from your life to celebrate World Listening Day, but you should know that there are many benefits to embracing the quiet and getting outside to listen to the world for a while. Some of the benefits include:
