Molina and Rehab Coverage
Molina has been a multi state health insurance provider for approximately 30 years. It has a range of different plans which may include rehab coverage. Molina Medicaid works with state governments which enables them to offer people quality health plans. It also offers medicare advantage plan options in most areas of the country. Besides these plans, Molina has a couple more familiar plan options such as Integrated Medicaid/Medicare plans and Marketplace plans, which are called exchange plans in some states.
Generally, Molina does offer substance use treatment coverage which may include outpatient programs, partial hospitalization, and residential inpatient treatment services. However, the benefits offered concerning substance abuse and mental health can differ slightly from state to state. This is mainly due to state and federal regulations. Every state may have different laws and regulations associated with Medicaid and Medicare insurance plans.
Rehab Coverage from Molina
If you purchase a Molina healthcare plan using a state exchange or the marketplace, the Affordable Care Act requires you to offer provisions in order to get mental health services. This includes rehab coverage, mental health coverage, and addiction treatment coverage. Even if you didn’t purchase your Molina plan using a state exchange, you may still be able to get rehab coverage.
It is important to remember that Molina plans obtained from a state exchange usually contain rehab coverage options. However, Molina is a Medicare coverage facility so rehab coverage options must meet state and federal requirements.
Molina Mental Health Services
According to Molina, they do now offer mental health services as an option to those they insure. Molina policyholders should contact their primary physician and ask them to provide them names of mental health providers who work within the Molina network. Of course, you should make sure to do a little research on any provider. That way you can make sure they are capable of meeting your needs.
One Molina benefit is outpatient mental health services which can treat people with mild, moderate, and severe mental health issues which include the following:
- Outpatient laboratory drugs, supplements, and supplies
- Group and individual mental health evaluations
- Psychotherapy based treatments
- Outpatient drug monitored therapy services
- Psychological testing if it is clinically required in order to diagnose a mental health condition
- Psychiatric consultation
Molina does not cover mental health services which are related to relationship problems. This means they do not cover family and couples counseling services.

Molina Behavioral Health Services
Generally, Molina does offer insurers behavioral health service benefits. Policyholders will need to be referred by Molina or a PCP to a specific provider. You will find some behavioral health services offered in Molina plans which may include medication management and mental health evaluations.
The majority of coverages, benefits, and options offered to Molina members are totally defined by Medicaid and Medicare state and federal guidelines. Some of these guidelines were established under the Affordable Care Act and others by Medicaid/Medicare state and federal requirements. However, many behavioral health services are normally covered and can include visits to the doctors, sessions with a therapist, and substance treatment programs.
Molina Rehab Services
Does Molina pay for drug rehab? This is a common question asked by people who are looking for mental health insurance and rehab insurance. The answer is that some of the plans, particularly Medi-Cal, offered by Molina do come with substance abuse and rehab treatment coverage. However, people insured with Medi-Cal may be eligible to get substance abuse preventative services, but they might not be eligible for major alcohol abuse services. In these cases, Molina will do their best to connect the policyholder with county based services which may be able to help them. In some states, substance abuse is normally covered and includes the following:
- Psychiatric evaluations
- Day treatment programs
- Outpatient treatment services
Molina plans vary significantly. This is mostly due to the Medicaid and Medicare requirements maintained by each state.
